Quality Matters is a campaign launched by the Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Associations (OCUFA). Its goal is to ensure that Ontario’s universities receive the public funding they need to ensure a high quality education for every qualified student.
OCUFA is the voice of 15,000 university faculty and academic librarians across Ontario. We seek to maintain and enhance the quality of our province’s higher education system, and to advance the professional and economic interests of our members.
Founded in 1964, OCUFA represents its 24 member faculty associations in two ways. We provide research and logistical services to support collective bargaining on individual university campuses. OCUFA also takes the needs and concerns of our members directly to government, other higher education stakeholders, the media, and the citizens of Ontario. We do this through public campaigns, publications, and direct meetings with politicians and policymakers.
Effective advocacy is supported by strong research. OCUFA produces a wide variety data and analysis, from government briefs to stand-alone research papers. For more information on OCUFA’s research, please click

OCUFA also recognizes the achievements of our members. Through the OCUFA Teaching and Academic Librarianship Awards, Status of Women Award of Distinction and the Lorimer Award, we salute those who have made an exceptional contribution to university education in Ontario. OCUFA currently produces three publications of interest to the higher education community.
Academic Matters, a journal exploring current trends in higher education;
Ontario University Reports, a blog and biweekly newsletter tracking OCUFA’s advocacy and member-support activities; and
Trends in Higher Education, our research series featuring timely and in-depth analysis of urgent issues in university education.
